Carla L. Hines is a proud native of Atlanta, Georgia. After receiving her bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University, Carla worked for many years in exports, logistics, and customs for a global ocean freight company handling such VIP accounts as Nike, Gap, HP, and Toys r’ Us. It was her work in the shipping industry that birthed the idea of pursuing a legal career in admiralty law.

After graduating with her Juris Masters from Emory University School of Law, Carla went on to pursue and earn her Juris Doctorate from Savannah Law School, a branch of Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School. While in law school, she was a member of the Moot Court Honor Board, competing at the University of Georgia Moot Court Competition in Spring 2016. She also served on the executive board of several school organizations including the Environmental Law Society working closely with the Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity, Street Law, which travelled to various inner city high schools and undergrad institutions encouraging students to pursue a career in law, and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International.

Carla’s most fond accomplishment as a law student was being accepted into the London Summer Study Abroad program hosted by the Southern University Law Center where she studied International Criminal Law and Constitutional Law, focusing on the intersections of British law and the U.S. Constitution. Her knowledge and appreciation of global law expanded during her studies in Europe, which included visits to Lloyd’s of London, the Royal Courts of Justice, and The International Court of Justice in the Hague, Netherlands.

As a practicing attorney, Carla has assisted clients in criminal, domestic, juvenile, and entertainment matters. However, it was the memory of being injured in a car accident that could have cost her life that motivated her to assist others injured due to drivers’ negligence. Her most memorable case to date was when she obtained a $375,000.00 settlement at mediation for a client who was severely injured when a negligent commercial truck driver merged into her lane, which resulted in her being stuck in the vehicle while first-responders used the jaws of life to extract her for 45 minutes.

When Carla is not engrossed in the law, she attends church, loves travelling with her non-profit Attorneys for Africa, spending time with family and friends, composing music, and binge-watching TV favorites like Law & Order and Game of Thrones.

Frequently Asked Questions

The following are answers to some of the most common questions we hear from injured drivers, passengers, and pedestrians, including the importance of contacting the police and securing a police report after an accident.

After checking that everyone is safe and calling 911, report the accident to the police and then record your police report number. Document the scene, take photos, exchange information with the parties involved, and collect witness contact details. Seek medical care, even if you feel okay; in some personal injury cases, injuries appear later. Then, speak with an attorney before talking to the insurance company. We offer free consultations to help you understand what to do next.

Most car accident attorneys, including our team at Flynn Greathouse, work on a contingency fee basis, meaning you don’t pay any legal fees up front. Instead, the attorney receives a percentage of the amount you recover — and if there’s no recovery, you don’t owe anything. Our payment structure helps injured people across America access legal help without added financial stress.

Even in a minor motor vehicle accident, it’s worth speaking with an attorney. What may seem like a small issue can become more complicated as details emerge. For example, injuries may appear later, the other driver may dispute fault, or the insurance companies might delay or undervalue your claim. A lawyer can explain your options and help you pursue compensation for things like property damage, hospital and medical bills, or lost time from work.

The time limit to file a personal injury lawsuit after a car accident varies by state law. This deadline, known as the statute of limitations, also applies to claims involving non-economic damages like emotional distress or physical pain. Act early so your attorney has enough time to gather evidence and file the claim properly.
