Do I need to report my accident to the police in New York?
You should call law enforcement after a crash involving injury, death, or significant property damage. New York also requires drivers to file a Report of Motor Vehicle Accident (Form MV-104) with the DMV within 10 days if anyone was injured or killed, or if property damage to any one person exceeds $1,000. A police accident report and DMV report can become important evidence for insurance claims or a future legal case.
